Sparrow’s at Reading Terminal Market

Branding Concept

***Award Winner - Best Commercial/Retail Space - American Society of Interior Designers***

A gem of a project, Sparrow’s Gourmet Snacks’ expansion into the iconic Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia required a limited and unique design approach: the 130-year-old landmark’s history and merit necessary to be prominent and accented with every new shop and stall’s aesthetic. With many limitations and the requirement to not alter the existing space’s footprint, ironwork, or fragile floor structure (nor wanting to!) Benita Cooper Design took on the challenge of highlighting a renowned piece of Philadelphia history, carefully molding classic and contemporary. From timeworn floor to exposed ceiling, we were able to craft Sparrow’s custom pieces and overall look while staying true to their brand colors, aesthetic, and voice. Each piece and highlight was crafted to work within the space, rather than among. Along with laser cut and curved custom signage and chevron perimeter panels, our team was also able to design custom tables and shelving to blend within the space, while also accenting the Sparrow’s brand.

Highlights

  • (2) Laser-cut, hand-formed, powder-coated, curved signage, featuring Sparrow’s branding and chevron borders on main signage

  • Brass chevron perimeter panels

  • Custom brass and charcoal shelving with Sparrow’s “S” laser cut into top supports

  • Stained red oak display table with Coop-Forge-designed Tone-4 base, laser cut with brass and charcoal highlights. This two-tier custom table also features the Sparrow’s “S” emblem prominent on the second tier.

  • Integrated logos and brand references throughout the space
